Becoming a Johnny

Spot the real life saver…

So dedicated am I to the subject of learning first aid that I recently threw myself off my bicycle to give a first aider the chance to try out her skills. She was good. She was Red Cross. In the ambulance I joked with the crew about the first aider being on site:

“but it’s ok, it wasn’t St Johns, it was a real first aider!”

Cue giggling from the ambulance girls. This then is the real dilemma. SJA has a terrible reputation with the “real” ambulance service, with the Red Cross and, well, with everyone it seems.

In my local branch they teach you how to do things in a way that means “the Red Cross won’t laugh at you”.

I’m a bit of a perfectionist so this all kind of worries me a little. But in a few weeks when my bones grow back and I learn to ride my bike like a grown up I’m going back to SJA to pick up where I left off.

Even if just to provide mirth making for “real” first aiders I seem set on being a Johnny.

I shall chronicle the journey here (if I don’t fall off).
